Description
A delightful twist on a classic, this French Onion Beef Sloppy Joe combines savory beef, sweet caramelized onions, and melty Swiss cheese in a toasted bun for a truly comforting meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 large onions, sliced
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 hamburger buns
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and gently stir, cooking until they soften and turn a deep golden brown, about 10–15 minutes.
- After the onions have caramelized, add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until it browns, breaking it up into small pieces as it cooks.
- Stir in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, seasoning with salt and pepper to your liking. Let this simmmer for about 10 minutes.
- In a separate pan, lightly toast the hamburger buns until crisp and golden.
- Spoon the beef mixture onto the toasted buns and top each with a slice of Swiss cheese. Serve warm.
Notes
Make ahead by preparing the beef filling a day in advance and storing it in the fridge. Consider adding spices like garlic powder or smoked paprika for an extra kick.
