Description

Greek Baklava is a delicious dessert made of layers of filo pastry filled with chopped nuts and sweetened with honey syrup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package of filo pastry
  • 2 cups of chopped walnuts
  • 1 cup of melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 cup of honey
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix the chopped walnuts with ground cinnamon.
  3. Layer half of the filo pastry in a greased baking dish, brushing each layer with melted butter.
  4. Spread the walnut mixture evenly over the pastry.
  5. Layer the remaining filo pastry on top, again brushing each layer with melted butter.
  6. Cut the baklava into diamond shapes before baking.
  7. Bake for about 45 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, honey, and vanilla extract to make the syrup. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes.
  9. Pour the syrup over the baklava as soon as it comes out of the oven.
  10. Let it cool before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the filo pastry is thawed before use.
  • Store baklava in an airtight container to maintain its crispiness.
  • For a different flavor, you can mix different nuts like pistachios or almonds.
