Description
Greek Baklava is a delicious dessert made of layers of filo pastry filled with chopped nuts and sweetened with honey syrup.
Ingredients

- 1 package of filo pastry
- 2 cups of chopped walnuts
- 1 cup of melted butter
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1 cup of water
- 1 cup of honey
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix the chopped walnuts with ground cinnamon.
- Layer half of the filo pastry in a greased baking dish, brushing each layer with melted butter.
- Spread the walnut mixture evenly over the pastry.
- Layer the remaining filo pastry on top, again brushing each layer with melted butter.
- Cut the baklava into diamond shapes before baking.
- Bake for about 45 minutes or until golden brown.
- In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, honey, and vanilla extract to make the syrup. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Pour the syrup over the baklava as soon as it comes out of the oven.
- Let it cool before serving.
Notes
- Ensure the filo pastry is thawed before use.
- Store baklava in an airtight container to maintain its crispiness.
- For a different flavor, you can mix different nuts like pistachios or almonds.
