Description
Omurice is a popular Japanese dish that combines fried rice and a fluffy omelet, often topped with ketchup or a savory sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups cooked rice
- 1/2 cup diced chicken or ham
- 1/4 cup diced onion
- 1/4 cup frozen peas and carrots
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoons milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add diced onion and sauté until translucent.
- Add chicken or ham and cook until browned.
- Stir in the frozen peas and carrots, and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Add the cooked rice and ketchup, mixing well. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for 3-4 minutes until heated through.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, and pepper.
- In another pan, heat the remaining oil and pour in the egg mixture, swirling to create a thin omelet.
- Once the omelet is set but still slightly runny on top, place the fried rice in the center and fold the omelet over the rice.
- Slide the omurice onto a plate and drizzle with additional ketchup or sauce if desired.
Notes
- For a vegetarian version, omit the meat and add more vegetables.
- Experiment with different sauces for topping, such as demi-glace or curry sauce.
- Use day-old rice for better texture.
