Description

Omurice is a popular Japanese dish that combines fried rice and a fluffy omelet, often topped with ketchup or a savory sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked rice
  • 1/2 cup diced chicken or ham
  • 1/4 cup diced onion
  • 1/4 cup frozen peas and carrots
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add diced onion and sauté until translucent.
  3. Add chicken or ham and cook until browned.
  4. Stir in the frozen peas and carrots, and cook for another 2 minutes.
  5. Add the cooked rice and ketchup, mixing well. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for 3-4 minutes until heated through.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, and pepper.
  7. In another pan, heat the remaining oil and pour in the egg mixture, swirling to create a thin omelet.
  8. Once the omelet is set but still slightly runny on top, place the fried rice in the center and fold the omelet over the rice.
  9. Slide the omurice onto a plate and drizzle with additional ketchup or sauce if desired.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian version, omit the meat and add more vegetables.
  • Experiment with different sauces for topping, such as demi-glace or curry sauce.
  • Use day-old rice for better texture.
