Ingredients

  • 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 large apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated cheese (such as Gruyère or cheddar)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon butter, for greasing

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grease a baking dish with butter.
  3. Layer half of the sweet potatoes in the bottom of the dish.
  4. Layer half of the apples on top of the sweet potatoes.
  5. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  6. Pour half of the heavy cream over the layers.
  7. Repeat the layers with the remaining sweet potatoes and apples.
  8. Pour the remaining cream over the top and sprinkle with grated cheese.
  9. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden and the sweet potatoes are tender.
  10. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a vegan version, substitute heavy cream with coconut cream and cheese with a dairy-free alternative.
  • Feel free to add nuts or breadcrumbs on top for extra crunch.
