- 1 large head of green cabbage
- 1.5 lbs lean ground beef (or ground turkey/chicken)
- 1 small yellow onion, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (or crushed pork rinds)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp onion powder
- Salt and freshly cracked black pepper
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- Fresh chopped parsley or thyme for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare the cabbage by cutting it into thick, round slices or peel away the large outer leaves. Drizzle with olive oil, then sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Combine the filling: In a large mixing bowl, mix the ground beef, onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, onion powder, salt, and pepper until just combined.
- Shape the patties into six equal portions and place them on the cabbage slices or in cabbage leaf cups.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 20–22 minutes, or until the patties are cooked through.
- Add the cheese on top of each burger and return to the oven for an additional 5–8 minutes until melted and bubbly.
- Garnish with chopped parsley or thyme before serving hot.
Notes
You can customize the meat mixture and spices according to your taste. For a quicker option, use an air fryer.
